Suspended architectures
Space here becomes syntactic again. The forms, solidly plastic, no longer interpenetrate, no longer dilate in the overlapping memory of different visions, but are content to graft one into the other in an anomalous manner. The arch stretched by the viaduct on the left, the hovering chimney, the sawtooth roof of the factory emerging from the vertiginously sloping plane, in fact draw in space a conflict of perspectives that is only subsided in the statics of the masses. Sassu experiments with a new possibility in this painting: that of architectural geometry, the measure of an unnatural space, shaped by heavy Sironian shadows. It is a moment of singular harmony with the utopian figuration of Giandante X, the suggestion of which contributes to freeing the young Sassu from futurism, which in 1929, with the manifesto of aeropittura, inaugurated the season of acrobatic "fan-visions.
